As a first home buyer purchasing or building a new house , townhouse or unit under the value of $600,000 in value and between the 1st August 2011 and 31st January 2012 you are eligible to receive the QLD Government's Building Boost Grant of $10,000. Combine this with the First Home Owners Grant of $7,000 and you will save $17,000 of your first purchase. Another bonus is there is no transfer duty on first homes under $500,000!
